Santa Run Helps Keep Silicon Valley Traditions Alive
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Thousands of Santas are helping save San Jose’s holiday traditions: Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Founda-tion’s fifth Annual TiVo “Santa Run Silicon Valley” – a 5K run/walk on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to wear costumes and many will be putting on their red Santa suit or favorite holiday character outfit for the TiVo “Santa Run Silicon Valley” while they chase the Grinch (played by Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone) through downtown San Jose. For the first time, finishers will receive a medal that can also be used as an ornament.
The Kids Reindeer Run (ages 2-7) starts at 2 pm and the 5K at 3 pm ending with “snow” in the air, along with milk and cookies at the finish line. The Santa Run also collects chil-dren’s books for Reading Partners, participants have donated 790 new or gently used books in the last three years.
“The TiVo Santa Run is the perfect way to ring in the holiday season for our community. Our beneficiaries – Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice – are deserving organiza-tions keeping alive staple holiday traditions in Silicon Valley. We can’t imagine a San Jose without it, and we hope we never have to,” said Carl Guardino, Santa Run Race Director and Silicon Valley Leadership Group CEO.

About the TiVo “Santa Run Silicon Valley”
The TiVo “Santa Run Silicon Valley” 5K walk/run has become a new holiday tradition in Silicon Valley raising $260,000 for Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice since 2012, along with collecting 790 children’s books for Reading Partners.
With public funding for Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice rapidly declining, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation – in partnership with former Mayor Chuck Reed and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo – launched the TiVo “Santa Run Silicon Valley” in 2012 to raise funds to preserve these two holiday traditions.
